Fort Young Hotel/Buddy Dive Dominica:
Known as “The Nature Island” and located between the French islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique in the eastern Caribbean, the independent nation of Dominica (pronounced “Dom-in-eek-a”) is the largest and most mountainous of the Windward Islands, encompassing an area of nearly 290 square miles, with an a population of approximately 69, 000.
Nestled at the edge of a cliff overlooking the Caribbean Sea, cradled in the beauty of Dominica’s mountainous landscape, is the Fort Young Hotel, Dominica’s premier hotel. In 1720, a rough, wooden fort was built by the French on the same site that the Fort Young Hotel sits on today. In 1761, British forces overran this fort when they captured the island and nine years later major construction began on Fort Young, named after the island’s first British governor. These are the same walls that are now part of the hotel. Old-world charm, modern amenities, and open vistas of the Caribbean Sea, marry harmoniously in this historic building.
